Create a Word document with equations, say file1.docx. Now open Word2MathML app and choose file1.docx in Open Word file dialog box. Choose a folder where you would like to put the output xhtml file (this is the html equivalent of your Word doc viewable inside a browser). Call it <path>/mathfolder, say. Now the app will create a file called file1.xml in <path>/mathfolder and place a stylesheet file in the same folder. The stylesheet file is required for this to work. The application creates some temp files and puts them in <path>/mathfolder/mathTemp. I will try to dispose of these temp files in the next release, but that seems to be one of the major issues in this application.

Now open file1.xml in a browser (IE 7 and FireFox 2 work - you need to install the MathPlayer plugin to get it to work in IE7. FF2 has much better looking output.

If you would like to post the xml file to the web, remember to add the pmathml.xsl file to the same folder on the server!
If you would still like to get this to work you can simply copy the libtidy.dll file into your C:\Windows\System32 directory.

And if you are getting an exception like System.Linq exception etc while running the program, you can fix that by installing the .NET Framework 3.5.

I will create an installer for the file soon and post it here.

NEW POST: Installation instructions

To create (reasonably) well formatted XHTML documents from a given Word 2007 document with mathematical formulas, you need the following.

Word2MathML executable file
libtidy.dll must be registered in your machine
pmathml.xsl stylesheet file must be placed in the target directory for the XHTML file.

How it works.

1) Download Word2MathML.exe file

2) Download libtidy.dll file and register it on your machine. Instructions for registering dll files are given here :

http://knowledge.macrovision.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108199&sliceId=1

I suppose the program would still work if you simply place the libtidy.dll file in the appropriate Windows system folder

3) Download the pmathml.xsl stylesheet file to the target folder for your XHTML file.

Now run Word2MathML.exe. Select Word 2007 file to convert, and select target folder name. If your filename is <filename>.docx then you will see a file called <filename>.xml in the target directory if everything works correctly. Now open the <filename>.xml in your browser and for the Word documents which follow certain rules, it will be completely converted to XHTML+MathML.
